Myth & magic courses

The College loves all things myth and magic. From cunning folk to spellcraft and the Wheel of the Year, join us to dive deeper into life’s great mysteries.

Our Myth & Magic events shine a light on life’s great mysteries. We explore cultures, traditions, beliefs and practices from around the world, both those that have endured into the 21st century and those that have faded into the past. We introduce historical mystics and timeless deities, sacred traditions and olde worlde mythology in a celebration of the richness of our anthropological landscape.

We regularly add courses to our programme. Keep checking back to see our upcoming Myth and Magic courses. Or sign up to our newsletter (scroll down) for regular updates on our upcoming events.

This 6-week online course takes you on a bewitching journey throughout the Bible. It introduces you to a variety of biblical texts in which the female practitioner of divination and magic has been (mis)understood as a malevolent witch with far-reaching consequences, even up to this present day.

The topics that will be discussed are, for example, the various types of divinatory and magical practices, the sexualization and demonization of the female witch, the gender-stereotype, and the punishment of the witch.

This course further looks at the biblical figure of the witch in the wider context of female divination in the Ancient Near East.

The course concludes with an examination of the way in which these biblical passages were (mis)used in the early modern witch-hunts that festered on the British Isles and beyond, both in the literature and in the art of that period.

We will be recording this course, and will provide replays for those participants who are unable to attend.

A six-part introductory course to the Judaeo-Christian mystical tradition known as Kabbalah.

This online course will be fun and practical and requires only that you have belief in some form of Higher Power.

Kabbalah is Hebrew for 'receive' and this ancient oral tradition is the foundation of all the Western Mystery Traditions. Written teachings crystalize and become locked into religion, the oral tradition continues to reveal the mystical and eternal truths behind the form.

Kabbalah teaches us who we are; why we are here; what we can do; how to balance our lives and the relationship between the Divine, the Universe humanity and all creation.

The course will feature:

1: Creation:

  • Why we are here; the spiritual and mystical nature of the Universe and our part in ‘the Divine Ecology

  • An introduction to the two cosmic diagrams, The Tree of Life and the Ladder of Light (also known as Jacob's Ladder) and how they demonstrate the Perennial Wisdom of all the world’s faiths

2: The Nature of God:

  • How and why the Hebrews changed the pantheon of gods to one God with many aspects. What those aspects are and how they relate to us in the everyday world. The gods are represented on each of the Sefirot of the Tree of Life, helping us to understand its structure and they represent the divine feminine as well as the sacred masculine

  • We will also look at the loss of the Divine Feminine aspect over the years

3: The Tree of Life and the levels within it:

  • Focusing on Tiferet, the place of connection between heaven and earth and Yesod, the place of the ego

  • Making the Tree of Life with your body and how understanding it can help you balance out your life

4: Kabbalah and Psychology:

  • How the Tree of Life can show us our own development from childhood to wisdom through different incarnations

  • The Unconscious and the Subconscious: healing the unidentified patterns and addictions that keep us paralysed

5: Jacob’s Ladder:

  • The four worlds of creation; what they are and what they mean to us. This is the original design of the first Hebrew Temple and its practices have come down to us today – somewhat blurred - through both Judaism and Christianity. Returning to the original, all-inclusive, Temple teachings is a vital pointer to the nature of spiritual ecology and how we can help our planet heal

6: Angels and Archangels:

  • The nature of the angelic realms, including positive and negative aspects

  • Where the great teaching angels of humanity are placed on the Tree of Life and Jacob’s Ladder and how to invoke their help in assisting prayers to the Holy One

The course includes guided meditations.

Here's what some of Maggy's previous students say about her Kabbalah course

"Maggy was a great teacher, making a complicated subject understandable to the near-beginner. I would thoroughly recommend her for more courses."

"Maggy is a fund of knowledge - basically - she knows her stuff. Powerful guided meditations. For such a complex subject as the Kabbalah, Maggy has left me with a good starting point and understanding behind the Tree of Life Glyph."

"I found the course very helpful and therapeutic, which was a bonus I wasn't expecting. Maggy explained it all very well and shared some resources that helped me to understand the workings of Kabbalah. It was good to meet up as an online group every week."
