The Edge of Consciousness Conference

Maggie La Tourelle & Dr Penny Sartori & Anthony Peake
Saturday 3 September
9:30am - 5:00pm

A day of exploration and discussion on the nature and continuity of consciousness beyond the brain.

Maggie La Tourelle

Maggie La Tourelle has worked in the field of holistic health care for over thirty years, integrating psychotherapy, NLP, kinesiology and energetic healing.

Alzheimers - A Bridge to Expanded States of Consciousness Conscious awareness underpins all of Maggie’s work and when her parents were nearing the end of their lives she explored this dimension with them. What transpired was extraordinary and took them on a journey to the edge of consciousness, and beyond. Today Maggie will be talking about her mother’s experiences when she had Alzheimer’s. Despite deteriorating brain function her mother was still able to think, in fact her thinking became clearer as her Alzheimer’s progressed, which suggests that her thoughts were not located in her brain but in extended mind. ‘It’s difficult working between two worlds’ her mother proclaimed and went on to tell Maggie what she was learning on the other side. Her portal to the other world which she described as her television, was her third eye and being open resulted in her having the full range of psychic abilities. She became very loving, talked about being with deceased relatives, had life reviews and lost her fear of death. So what was happening? Can Alzheimer’s be a bridge to expanded states of consciousness?

Dr Penny Sartori

Dr Penny Sartori worked as a nurse for 21 years and specialised in intensive care for 17 of those years. In 1998 she commenced a five year prospective hospital research study into near-death experiences (NDEs) at the intensive care unit where she worked. In 2005 she was awarded a PhD for her research.

Near Death Experiences- What It Feels Like to Die Death is a taboo subject and seldom discussed yet the medicalization of death is resulting in the majority of people dying in the clinical hospital environment under the control of the medical staff. Death used to take place at home and was a social occasion. Family, friends, neighbours and even children were present at the bedside of the dying person. We are no longer exposed to such deathbed scenes and consequently we don’t know what to expect as our own loved ones die. During the course of her hospital research Penny encountered patients who described near-death experiences. Despite trying to find causes of the experience, by exploring factors such as blood results and drugs administered, none were found. Throughout her nursing career she also witnessed many dying patients communicating and gesturing to unseen entities. Since beginning her research, Penny has gathered thousands of such cases from people who have contacted her. Penny will discuss deathbed visions and near-death experience and describe some interesting case histories. She will then discuss the significance of these experiences and how we can all learn a great deal from them when caring for the dying.

Anthony Peake

Anthony Peake’s books have one central theme; what exactly is “consciousness” and what is its relationship with the seemingly solid, material universe presented to us by our senses? In his work he discusses neurology, psychology, quantum physics, consciousness-studies and cosmology and then places in the mix mysticism, occult beliefs, theology and cultural items such as movies, music and even poetry.

The Chemistry of Consciousness - the Pineal Gland as a Portal to Higher Consciousness. We seem to exist in two worlds. During normal waking time the world around us is consistent and seems to have an existence outside of us that is shared by others. However, there is a second universe of perception that is internal and private, our inner world of dreams and hallucinations. Anthony will present evidence that both these worlds are just as real as each other. He will argue that the “portal” to these alternate realities is the pineal gland, a tiny structure that can be found at the centre of the brain. He will present powerful evidence taken from the very latest research into neurochemistry and quantum physics that the key to this portal is a substance known as dimethyltriptamine (DMT). Anthony believes that this chemical is created in the brain by the pineal gland and that DMT creates our realities in the same way that a computer creates virtual realities from digital information. Indeed, he will argue that all our experiences are actually part of a huge hologram-like simulation and that consciousness is also part of this hologram.
