Experience the art of deep listening in this in-person workshop facilitated by a member of artist duo Blanc Sceol.

In the 1960s, composer Pauline Oliveros began asking what it would mean to truly listen – an inquiry that became Sonic Meditations and grew into the wider Deep Listening practice. Deep Listening invites us to expand our awareness of the sonic environment, both externally and internally, connecting more fully with ourselves, each other and our surroundings through sound.

What to expect

This is an experiential, collaborative and playful workshop, where you'll connect, move and sound with your surroundings. Through Deep Listening exercises, somatic bodywork and Oliveros' "special procedures" for communal listening and sonic improvisation, you'll experience this practice firsthand in a spirit of experimentation and shared exploration.

This in-person workshop includes:

  • An introduction to Pauline Oliveros' Deep Listening practice and its origins in Sonic Meditations
  • Deep Listening exercises to expand awareness of the sonic environment
  • Somatic bodywork connecting sound, breath and movement
  • Communal listening and sonic improvisation using Oliveros' "special procedures"
  • Collaborative, playful group exploration of sound and presence
