Join us for an in-person workshop with Anji Main, exploring Raqs Sharqi – the Dance of the East – as a pathway to healing and spirit connection.

Raqs Sharqi is an Egyptian dance form whose roots trace back to the sacred temple dance of Ancient Egypt. Far more than performance, its traditional movements can be a tool for healing and for connecting with Spirit. It's this ancient lineage – dance as devotion – that gives Raqs Sharqi its enduring draw for those seeking a more embodied route into spiritual practice.

What to expect

The workshop will explore the five Hermetic elements of air, fire, water, earth and ether, and how each of these can affect and move us through the body. Between one movement and the next, we'll discover the spaces in which Spirit can visit us, guiding us toward the truest expression of ourselves. We will also work with walking meditation, where awareness of each step brings us fully into the present moment. Throughout, live percussion rhythms will help you enter a light trance state, opening a channel to connect with spirit communicators and guides and receive their messages of support and healing. Expect a format that is embodied, experiential and guided throughout.

Meet your tutor, Anji Main

Anji Main is a contemporary artist, dancer, and choreographer, and a consultant at The College of Psychic Studies, trained in mediumship with Gerrie March and in spirit art with June-Elleni Laine. Earlier in her artistic development, she trained extensively in traditional Egyptian dance, specialising in the Ghawazee tradition, and travelled to Karnak in southern Egypt to work with Les Musiciens du Nil, whose musical lineage stretches back to ancient Egypt. Anji taught Raqs Sharqi for 30 years and ran a dance company with her husband, Peter, with a particular focus on the healing potential of dance and music – bringing decades of embodied wisdom to this exploration of movement as a spiritual practice.
