One of the most compassionate gifts we can offer a friend or loved one is to guide them through the dying process. It is an essential life skill.

This livestream certificated workshop teaches you how to enhance your ability to care for and support someone in the last moments of their life. You will learn how to offer compassionate support to the dying and those with progressive or life-limiting illness.

The focus of the Tender Loving Care (TLC) training is on holistic care, listening, and knowing how to sit with someone and offer comfort at the end of their life. In this workshop, we learn about the stages of dying as well as simple tools and gentle therapeutic techniques to aid the journey through these stages.

TLC is based on the pioneering movement of the Soul Midwives' School. Soul midwives are non-medical, holistic companions who guide and support the dying in order to facilitate a gentle and tranquil death. These gentle dying techniques in holistic palliative care have now been adopted in many hospices throughout the UK.

The topics explored in this workshop include:

  • The four stages of dying
  • Simple therapeutic techniques to calm agitation, anxiety and tension, including soothing touch
  • Listening skills
  • Sitting alongside during the final hours

This workshop includes handouts and a TLC certificate from the Soul Midwives' School. It counts as entry towards the TLC practitioner training.

We will not be recording this workshop. One of the unique aspects of the College's online events is that they are highly interactive. Participants are encouraged to discuss and share with the tutor and the group. These sharings can be very personal, and some may not feel comfortable with them being recorded.
