Creating a Clay Faerie Grotesque

Invite the faeries into your home as protectors and bringers of blessings in this hands-on, in-person workshop, where you will create your own clay faerie grotesque guided by the fae themselves.

Faeries, fae and the merry men are elemental spirits who walk the line between the worlds. They can hinder or help us, and they have long been treated with a mixture of wariness and respect. When approached with due care and courtesy, however, they may choose to work with us as protectors, bringers of joy and guides in the realms of magic. One traditional way of working with them is through the faerie grotesque, a protective figure long used by witches and cunning folk to deter unwanted negative influences from the home.

Tia Price brings a rare blend of psychic practice and scholarship to this workshop. A tarot reader with over 25 years' experience, she has led workshops in psychic awareness, personal empowerment, crystal healing and tarot. Her academic research focuses on the power of objects: her master's degree in Death, Religion and Culture explored memorial, ritual and memory through objects, and her PhD research examines object biographies and relics. This makes her an ideal guide for a workshop in which a handmade object becomes a vessel of magic and protection.

What to expect

Creating your own clay faerie grotesque is an enjoyable experience in meditative magic. You will begin with a guided meditation to meet the merry men, then work with the fae for inspiration as you shape your grotesque in clay, allowing their guidance to inform its form and character. This is a relaxed, creative and practical day, combining ritual, meditation and making in a welcoming group setting. You will leave with your own finished faerie grotesque and an understanding of how to place it in your home, as directed by the fae, for protection and blessings.

Meet your tutor, Tia Price

Tia Price is a tarot reader who works with the psychic skills of clairaudience, clairvoyance and clairsentience, and has over 25 years' experience. Alongside her psychic work, Tia is a PhD candidate at the University of Portsmouth, where her research has examined objects, object biographies and remains as relics, and she has presented her work at conferences including Death in Visual Culture III and BAFTSS 2023. She contributed to The Routledge Handbook of Death, Heritage & Museums (2023) and also works as a sessional lecturer. Her deep understanding of the meaning and magic held within objects, combined with her warm, practical teaching style, makes her the perfect guide for creating a faerie grotesque of your own.
