Discover Umbanda, a living Brazilian spiritual path that speaks directly to mediumship, energy healing and neo‑shamanic practice in this in-person talk. Your guide? Umbanda priest Pai André Evangelho, visiting us from Brazil.

In Umbanda, the medium enters a controlled trance to incorporate guiding entities such as caboclos (Indigenous forest healers) and pretos‑velhos (wise elder ancestors), working with song, rhythm, breath and movement to cleanse, rebalance and bless the recipient.

This presentation at The College of Psychic Studies will introduce you to the origins and core practices of Umbanda. It will also talk about the Brazilian tradition of psychic surgery as practised through spirit doctor Mestre Felipe.

The language of guides, spirit doctors and multidimensional intervention will be familiar to healers and neo‑shamanic practitioners who already work with helping spirits in altered states of consciousness.

While this talk discusses psychic surgery, it does not include a demonstration. Psychic surgery demonstrations are included in this in-person workshop: Psychic Surgery with a Spirit Surgeon.

This in-person talk includes:

  • A clear overview of Umbanda's origins and core practices
  • Umbanda as a bridge between mediumship and neo‑shamanism, through direct work with spirit allies, nature forces and ancestors
  • An exploration of trance mediumship as a disciplined form of channelling
  • Showing how Umbanda healing clinics and psychic surgeries are structured, protected and ethically held

Whether you are a trance medium, healer or neo‑shamanic practitioner, this talk will give you the context and confidence to step into a deeper practice of Umbanda, and to understand Umbanda as a vibrant, ethical and heart‑centred expansion of the work you already do. Book now.

What is Umbanda?

Developed in early 20th‑century Rio de Janeiro, Umbanda is a living Brazilian spiritual path that brings together Kardecist Spiritism, indigenous and African traditions, Catholic devotion and neo‑shamanic influences. In this evening talk, Pai André Evangelho, founder of Rio Casa de Cura In Brazil, will introduce Umbanda as an urban, ritual form of neo‑shamanism: a disciplined way of entering altered states to work with powerful spirit allies for healing, guidance and transformation.

This talk is taking place in-person at our college in London

You can find the address and travel directions on our contact page - we'll also include all the information in your enrolment email.
