Join curators Simon Grant and Jacqui McIntosh, together with Barrie Gasson, son of artist Ethelwynne M. Quail, for a special livestream conversation exploring The College of Psychic Studies' autumn exhibition, Ethelwynne M. Quail: The Kingdom of the Gods.
Marking the first public solo exhibition of Quail's original works, this conversation will shed light on the artist's life and vision, more than 70 years after her paintings first reached the world as printed plates in Geoffrey Hodson's 1952 book. The speakers will share the story behind the exhibition, offering a rare glimpse into the curatorial research and discoveries that have brought Quail's extraordinary work to public view for the first time.
Meet your speakers
Simon Grant is an art historian and curator, editor of Tate Etc. magazine and co-editor of Picpus magazine. He is the author of In My View: Personal Reflections on Art by Today's Leading Artists and Informal Beauty: The Photographs of Paul Nash, and was co-curator of Georgiana Houghton: Spirit Drawing at The Courtauld Gallery in 2016, giving him particular expertise in the visionary, spirit-inspired art tradition Quail belongs to.
Jacqui McIntosh is Archivist & Curator at The College of Psychic Studies, caring for its large collection of spirit-inspired art, photography and artefacts dating from 1850 to the present. Independently, she is a researcher, curator and writer whose work spans feminist, mediumistic and esoteric histories, with a particular interest in artists whose spiritual development evolved alongside their art.
Barrie Gasson, Ethelwynne M. Quail's son, brings a rare personal perspective, offering rare insights into his mother's creative journey and the woman behind the paintings.
