The Hermit: Tarot for the Long Night

This two-part livestream workshop meets the tarot as a wintry compass, asking what has gone dormant – and what remains secretly alive beneath the stillness.

November marks the threshold at which the year begins to withdraw. Winter invites introspection, but not always by choice: shorter days, isolating weather and the return of life to the home can bring us face-to-face with ourselves. The Hermit guides this passage not as a figure of resignation, but of active attention, leaving his shelter and moving through darkness one illuminated step at a time.

What to expect

Together in these two sessions, we will explore stillness and solitude as active states, befriend melancholy and suspension, and encounter the nigredo, alchemy's blackening. We will ask what has gone dormant – and what remains secretly alive beneath the stillness. By giving solitude movement and structure, the tarot cards become a source of inward illumination: a way not to deny the darkness, but to find our bearings within it. These two sessions offers weekly tarot practices alongside rituals and original spreads.

Meet your tutor, Laetitia Barbier

French-born Laetitia Barbier is an independent scholar, professional tarot reader and teacher. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Art History from La Sorbonne University Paris, and has worked with Morbid Anatomy as programming director, head librarian and occasional curator. Her book Tarot and Divination Cards: A Visual Archive has a foreword by Rachel Pollack. Laetitia has lectured, taught and read cards for institutions including Greenwood Cemetery, Artyard, Fotografiska NY, The College of Psychic Studies and the New York Public Library. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
