What defines a shaman is his or her ability to go into a trance state at will, to contact and interact with invisible, spiritual realms.
They are masters of altered states of consciousness.
But how are these different states reached? And how can we tell whether we are experiencing genuine spiritual realms as opposed to getting lost in the fantasies of an over active imagination?
In this talk we will explore different means of altering consciousness, all the way from spontaneous mystical openings through to potentially psychotic experiences, and finally to the use of tools such as the drum or teacher plants.
We will look at the pitfalls of such endeavours and more importantly how to develop capacities to bring the wisdom received in the other realms back safely into our everyday lives.
